چکیده

This study was designed to determine the infl uence of Ca and P intake by young, gestating sows on the growth and skeletal development of their developing piglets and if smaller birthweight piglets are at greater risk from mineral insuffi ciency during gestation. A total of 30 sows were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 dietary Ca:P treatments. At birth, the smallest and a normal-sized piglet from each litter were euthanized, and the left femur extracted for peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) scanning. Number of piglets born, body weight (BW) at 3 d of age, and piglet ADG were unaffected by diet. At birth, the highest serum Ca level was seen in the small piglets from sows fed a high Ca diet however, at weaning, this value had the smallest change from the initial value. Femurs of piglets from sows fed the low Ca diet had the highest cortical density. Piglet size had no effect on cortical density. Bone ash %, ash Ca %, ash P %, and serum bone markers were unaffected by diet or piglet size.

Effects of Calcium, Phosphorus and Zinc in Wheat-Based Diets on Broiler Chickens’ Performance, Immunity and Bone Parameters

An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of zinc (Zn) supplementation and different concentrations of calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) in wheat-based diets on the performance, immune responses and bone parameters of broiler chickens. A randomized complete block design with factorial arrangement was used (three concentrations of Zn supplementation×two concentrations of dietary Ca-P),...

Phytase use in pig feed : a real profitability boost

Phytase’s rapid growth has resulted mainly from its acceptance as an economically viable and scientifically proven replacement for expensive inorganic phosphates. While an increasing understanding of the impact of phytate on dietary amino acid and energy digestibility has also led to a greater appreciation of the value of phytase application beyond phosphorus and calcium release, this is still ...

Effect of dietary available phosphorus and phytase on production performance of old laying hens and tibia bone quality

Background: Old laying hens are more prone to dietary calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) deficiencies as  they absorb Ca and P less efficiently than younger hens. OBJECTIVES: In a 2×2 factorial design, the influence of diets with two levels of available phosphorus (AP) and phytase enzyme on the laying performance, egg quality and tibia bone characteristics of laying hens at their late 2nd producti...

The Effect of Level of Dietary Calcium and Phosphorus on Skeletal Development in the Young Pig to 25 Lb Live Weight.

In this series of papers the first (Blair, 1963) described synthetic diets for young pigs, and the second (Blair, Diack & McPherson, 1963) described the pattern of development of the limb bones of suckled pigs during the first 8 weeks of life. The aim of the study now described was to determine what dietary levels of calcium and phosphorus, with or without the addition of fresh ox liver, would ...

Dietary magnesium levels for sows during gestation and lactation.

Thirty-six crossbred gilts 10 months of age were bred and assigned to dietary magnesium levels of 400 or 900 ppm. At parturit ion the levels were modified to 150 and 650 ppm. During lactation phosphorus levels of .30 or .54% were fed within each magnesium level. Magnesium levels did not influence the number or weight of pigs at birth or weaning. Sows fed the high level of magnesium (650 ppm) ma...
